Class of 2023 AP Artist
Megan Sutton
The central idea of my portfolio from the beginning was combining my friends and music. I’m a band kid. Music has been a part of my entire life and experiencing it with my friends is just as important to me.
I started out with mainly very obvious ideas such as the instrument they play and my friends themselves. I then delved into the process of creating cyanotypes, which is the same process as blueprints are made. Starting with a few practice prints I was able to get the exact time under the black light and how thick the pen had to be, but I still needed a central idea for what the subject for the prints were going to be. Looking at the more colorful painting that's an aerial view of Canada, it got me into the idea of more maps. As seen on the giant board, I created multiples of these maps, which are all aerial views of my friends' neighborhoods. With the board connected and done, my portfolio was fully connected.
About My portfolio
15 Portfolio Pieces
Materials: Acrylic paint, fabric, needle and thread

This painting is the most straight forward as it's just me and my friends, yet I created more depth with covering it with fabric. the idea is that you hear music yet you can't see the musicians who play it.
Materials: Acrylic paint

The idea of this painting was to basically introduce my portfolio to music. the instruments are the same ones my friends play.

Materials: Acrylic paint
This painting was basically the start of the rest of my portfolio. It was an AERIAL perspective painting that then INCORPORATed color theory. This brought an idea into mapping and how i could connect my friends through said maps.
